#SkinRules: Skin care routine for brides

Consider this your ultimate wedding skin care plan.

You’ve snapped ring selfies, selected your bride tribe and the perfect dress. Now it's time to make sure you have the best skin of your life when you walk down the aisle.

It’s not only the seating plan, flowers, catering and DJ that require your attention, your skin should also be part of your pre-wedding checklist. Because let’s be honest great skin does take time.

    1. Timing is everything

As your skin has a 28-day regeneration process you should start your new skin care regime at least a month before the big day. Your weekly regime should include a once a week exfoliating treatment and a twice weekly mask. We’d up this to every day or every second day the week before your wedding. A word of advice, if you are going to have a facial make sure you do it no later than 2 weeks before your wedding date. We all know and love the benefits of a facial, but they can leave you looking a bit red (thanks extractions) and can sometimes encourage underlying breakouts to come to the surface. The same with charcoal infused skin care products, while great for detoxifying and purifying they can draw out pimples from deep within the skin. We recommend cutting back on the charcoal infused beauty products about 2 weeks before the big day.

    2. Get your glow on

There are two things which create the perfect environment for glowing skin. First is exfoliation – but not before you going running off into the distance exfoliating like your life depends on it, a word of caution. You should be exfoliating a maximum of twice a week (once for sensitive skin ladies) and its important to pick the grade of exfoliation based on your skin type. If your skin is rough and you’ve been slacking on the exfoliation then we’d recommend a peel-off face mask. For those of you who are committed exfoliators and perhaps have a more sensitive skin look for something more mild like a sugar scrub or fruit acid peel. That’s not to say you can’t use both exfoliation types it really just depends on how your skin is feeling.

After you’ve sloughed away those dead skin cells its time to hydrate and not just any product will do. Look for skin care products containing vitamin c which reduces dark spots, evens skin tone and brightens dull skin leaving you with a luminous, natural glow. We love incorporating sheet masks before a wedding day as this provides skin with a concentrated dose of skin care ingredients giving skin that extra glow-boost.

    3. Eyes are the windows to the soul

While you’re staring into your husband-to-be’s eyes as he is saying his vows the last thing you want to be worried about is dark circles and under eye puffiness. And let’s be honest, its totally normal not to sleep well the night before and most brides wake up looking panda eyed. Our best fix for dark circles and under eye puffiness are hydrogel under eye patches. These patches are infused with a gel serum containing active ingredients like collagen, green tea and caffeine. The patches cool the skin upon application reducing puffiness while the active ingredients get to work on those panda eyes. Added benefit? These patches are great at catching eye shadow fallout making them perfect to pop on while the makeup artist works her magic.

    4. Don’t forget your hands!

Picture this, your husband slides the wedding band onto your finger, the moment is absolute perfection… until the band wedges itself on your callused finger. For the ultimate silky-smooth, soft hands we always have a hand mask in our bathroom cabinet. Now these aren’t any ordinary hand creams. For an intensive treatment we swear by dual layered hand masks. These nifty gloves have two layers, the outside remains completely dry and touch screen friendly (no need to pause your wedding planning) while the inner layer contains the moisturising serum. Worn for 20 minutes the gloves are discarded revealing the softest, smoothest hands you have ever felt! You’re welcome.

What are the best skin care ingredients for brides?

Vitamin C! If you’re after a flawless complexion with a natural glow for your big day then look for products containing vitamin C. One of the world’s most effective skin brightening ingredients, vitamin C fades dark spots, freckles and imperfections. It also helps reduce pigmentation and uneven skin tone. Vitamin C is a superior skin moisturiser helping to hydrate and nourish.
