What Is a Serum Mist, and Why Use One?

2 min read

Woman spraying Skin Republic Niacinamide Serum Mist

Face mists used to have a reputation as a nice-to-have. A spritz of rose water, a bit of a moment, not much else. Serum mists are different. They're designed to deliver actual active ingredients in a fine spray, so you get a treatment step and a refresh in one.

What's the difference between a face mist and a serum mist?

A basic face mist is mostly water with a botanical or two. It feels nice, but it doesn't do much once it evaporates.

A serum mist is formulated more like a light serum. It carries actives and humectants that help skin hold onto water, so it keeps working after the spray has dried down.

Inside our Niacinamide Serum Mist

Our Niacinamide Serum Mist is built around three ingredients:

  • Niacinamide (vitamin B3), the main active. It's one of the most well-researched skincare ingredients for oil, pores and uneven tone.
  • Aloe vera, which helps skin stay hydrated and comfortable.
  • Allantoin, a soothing, skin-conditioning ingredient.

Glycerin, panthenol and betaine round it out to support hydration. The mist is designed to visibly reduce pimples and minimise the look of enlarged pores, while keeping skin refreshed and balanced through the day.

Who it's for

It works for oily, combination, normal and dry skin. It's especially useful if you deal with:

  • Pimples and blemishes
  • Visible pores
  • Shine that builds up during the day
  • Uneven-looking tone

How to use it

  1. Close your eyes and mouth.
  2. Hold the bottle 20 to 25cm from your face and mist evenly.
  3. Let it absorb. No need to rub it in.

You can use it up to three times a day, on bare skin as part of your routine or over makeup for a mid-day refresh. If you use it in the morning, follow with SPF.

Three ways to fit it into your day

After cleansing: mist onto damp skin before your moisturiser to add a light layer of niacinamide.

Over makeup: a few sprays can take the edge off powdery, flat-looking makeup and leave a fresher finish.

On the go: after the gym, in the car, at your desk at 3pm when your skin feels tired and oily.

A quick note

As with any new product, patch test first. Don't spray directly into your eyes or inhale the mist, and keep it out of direct sunlight in a hot car.

If you're looking for one easy upgrade to your summer routine, this is it.
